Offaly senior footballers gained their second brace of points in this year’s Division 4 League when on Sunday in Tullamore they had a deserved 0-13 to 1-4 win over Waterford which puts Offaly on top of the group with four points. On the team and panel from Rhode were Pauric Sullivan, Niall McNamee, Anton Sullivan, Conor McNamee, Niall Darby, Brian Darby, Eoin Rigney, Paul McPadden, James McPadden and Key Garry. Offaly next game in the league is against Wicklow in Aughrim on Sunday March 1st.
Division 1 Rhode v Tullamore in O’Brian Park on Sunday at 12noon
The Rhode GAA Club dinner-dance and presentation night will take place in the Bridge House on Saturday 21st of March. The meal will commence at 8pm sharp. The presentation of the 2014 Offaly Senior football championship and the 2013 Under 21 championship medals. The presentation will be made by a special guest and music will be by the very popular band The Secrets. There will be a drinks reception at 7.30 with the meal being served at 8pm sharp. Tickets are priced at a very reasonable €25 and a great night is assured. Tickets will be available for purchase from Friday and each Thursday night from 8pm to 9.30pm starting on 19th of February in Killeens or by contacting John Glennon 087 2715 804, Seamus Maguire, Patricia McManus or by contacting any of the committee. Admission is by ticket only.
Offaly Senior hurlers play Laois in the first round of the national hurling league on Saturday night at 7pm in O’Moore Park.
There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto for the week ending 2nd of February for a Jackpot of €15,000. The numbers drawn were 2 6 18 27 The club would like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to O’Toole’s for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation. The Rhode GAA Lotto is the main source of income the club has and now you can play online though our website. The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on. In other words, the more you play the more free draws you are entitled to!!

Get well wishes are extended to all the people of the parish who are ill or hospitalised at the moment especially to Brendan O’Toole, Liam Swaine and Micky Gunning they are all former greats of the club.
Sympathy is extended to the Maher family on the death of Paddy whose died on Wednesday last and whose remains were interred to Portarlington cemetery on Saturday last. The deceased was one of the best known and respect characters on the GAA scene in both Gracefield and Offaly and will be sadly missed by all GAA followers but especially by his family. May He Rest in Peace.
Sympathy is also extended to the Hackett family of Geashill on the sudden death of Cyril whose remains were interred in Raheen cemetery on Saturday. The deceased was very well known as he was one of the biggest bookmakers in the County and he was also a great GAA supporters. His son John is the current Chairman of Raheen GAA and gives sponsorship to local clubs including Rhode.
