Paschal\’s Charges Ready For Opener

\"PascalThe best of luck to the Offaly Minor footballers who play Kilkenny in the first round of the Leinster championship on Saturday in Nolan Park throw-in at 3pm. On the team and panel from the Minor Club are Ruairi McNamee who captains the side and Jack Murphy. Best of luck also to Paschal Kellaghan who manages the side, David Connolly (Bracknagh), John Murray (Ballycumber) and John Kenny (Tullamore) who are the selectors.

Rhode Under 10 Community Games team were beaten by Clara in what was a very enjoyable and excellent game on Tuesday evening.

Rhode Under 16 footballers gained their second victory in this year\’s league when they recorded a 1-15 to 2-10 win over Shamrocks in Mucklagh on Tuesday evening. Under 16 League round 4 Rhode v Na Fianna in Geashill at 6.45 on Tuesday the 22nd

Minor League Rhode v Ballinamere/Durrow in Durrow on Thursday at 6.45pm

Rhode Minor footballers were well beaten by Balyna (Kildare) in a challenge in Rhode on Sunday thanks in expressed to Balyna for the same and to John O\’Reilly for referring.

Rhode Under 14 footballers were beaten by Gracefield in the third round of the league on Monday in Rhode on a score line of 4-5 to 4-3. The game was referred by Martin Carthy (Walsh-Island).

Rhode Junior footballers had a challenge game against neighbours Daingean on Saturday and won by a few points. The club would like to thank Daingean for the game.

Division 1 League Rhode v Edenderry Friday at 8pm

Rhode GAA are holding a fundraising night on Saturday May 3rd at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium. The stadium has great facilities and can cater for people who can avail of the excellent food outlets which includes a restaurant and fast food outlets while there is also bar facilities for those wishing to have a drink. For those wishing to have a bet there are bookies and tote facilities there and you can also bet on the races in Shelbourne Park. Anyone wishing to sponsor the race night can do so in any of the following ways.

Race sponsorship Full race €200 half race €100

Dog sponsorship cost €20 which includes admission and race programme

Ads in programme cost €100 for full page and €50 for half page

Those who sponsor race\’s or ads will receive tickets for the night complementary.

Offaly Minor hurlers had a good 1-16 to 1-8 win over Carlow in Carlow on Saturday and now they play Laois in the second round on Saturday in Tullamore and they are wished the best of luck.

Offaly Senior hurlers retain their Division 1B status when on Saturday evening they recorded a 3-19 to 0-14 win over Kerry.

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto for the week ending 7th of April for a Jackpot of €15,000. The numbers drawn were 4 12 16 29 . The club like 6to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to O\’Toole\’s for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation. The following matched three numbers and received €35 each. Next week\’s draw takes place in Killeen\’s

Get well wishes is extended to all the people of the parish who are ill or hospitalised at the moment especially to Liam Swaine, Marie Murphy and Brendan O\’Toole.

Sympathy is extended to the Lenehan family on the death of Eddie who passed away on Friday after a long illness. Eddie was a man of very quite disposition, a great family man to his wife Geraldline and children. Eddie was an integral part of live in the village of Rhode. He was also a great supporter of all Rhode and Offaly teams and was a regular at matches until later years when illness prevented him from doing so. From a great GAA family all at the club sent their deepest sympathy to all the Lenehan family and extended family. Eddie died on Friday and was laid to rest in Rhode cemetery on Monday. Sympathy is also extended to the Mathews family of Daingean on the death of Joe who died suddenly at Rhode FAS centre on Thursday morning. Joe has been a member of the Rhode Parish Enterprise Centre with FAS for the past number of years and there was great shock to all when Joe passed away on Thursday. Deepest sympathy is extended to the Mathews family and to Joe\’s wife Catherine and his son Michael. Joe was laid to rest in his native Daingean on Sunday. May they both rest in peace,

Division 1 League Rhode v Edenderry in Rhode at 8pm Friday

In the first round of the Under 16 county league Rhode had a good 5-22 to 2-6 win over St. Rynagh\’s in Rhode on Tuesday evening last.

Under 16 League Rhode v Shamrocks in Mucklagh on Tuesday the 8th at 6.45 referee Alan McKnight. They will also play Gracefield during the week..

Rhode GAA are holding a fundraising night at Mullingar Greyhound track on Saturday 3rd of May. Races, dogs and advertisements in the program are the means of supporting the night. Further details next week.

Offaly senior footballers drew with Fermanagh in Brewster Park on Sunday in the last round of the division 3 league on a score line 3-10 to 2-13. On the team and panel from the club were Niall Darby, Pauric, Anton and Shane Sullivan, Niall and Conor McNamee and Paul and James McPadden. Despite the result Offaly will be playing in division 4 next season.

Well done to all the boys and girls of the parish who received their confirmation in Rhode on Saturday.

Sympathy is extended to the Martin family of Ballybrittan on the death of their father Jimmy whose remains were interred in Derrinturn cemetery on Wednesday. May he rest in peace. Sympathy is also extended to the Doyle family of Marian Tce Rhode on the death of Molly their mother. Molly was a lovely woman to meet and was a woman of quite disposition. She will be missed by us but especially by her family. Molly was laid to rest in Rhode cemetery on Sunday. May she rest in peace.
