Rhode Secure Semi Final Place

Leinster Senior Club Football Championship

Rhode Senior Footballers booked a place into the Leinster Senior Club semi final for a 5th time as they overcame Simonstown Gaels of Meath on Sunday afternoon last on a score-line of 1-12 to 1-9.  Going into the first 15 minutes Rhode found themselves behind by two points and they showed major work-rate and belief to claw their way back and it paid off with the scoreboard reading   Rhode 6pts Simonstown 4pts at half-time. Rhode Kicked on further ahead and twenty minutes into the second half Conor McNamee hit the back of the net to put us up by 6pts 1-10 to 7. Simonstown fought back hard and got a goal taken from a penalty leaving it very close encounter as they added another point which brought Rhodes lead down to  2pts. Rhode However held their nerve excellently and in injury time went down the  field and got a much needed score to extend the lead. Full-Time Score Rhode 1-12 Simonstown Gaels 1-9.

Rhode will now travel to Drogheda to take on the Louth Champions Sean O’Mahony,s on Sunday the 27th of November.

A Big Thank You to Tommy Doyle and Staff for the wonderful meal served to the team and management on Sunday evening last it was top notch. . Also thanks to the ladies who helped serve the food. It was very much appreciated by the team.

 

Safe Travelling

Rhode GAA would like to wish Rhode Footballers Anton Sullivan and Jake Kavanagh all the very best on their tour of duty in the Lebanon with their fellow colleagues in the Irish Defence Forces. Stay Safe Lads and we look forward to your return home in six months.

 

Lotto

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto Draw that took place on the 7th of November for a Jackpot of €15,000.  The numbers drawn were 6 9 13 30.  The club would like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to Killeens for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.  The following matched three numbers and received €100 each

The Rhode GAA Lotto is the main source of income the club has and now you can play online though our website.  The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on.  In other words, the more you play the more free draws you are entitled to!!

Massive Congratulations to Gerry Hickey on his success with Rosemount reaching the Leinster Intermediate Club Final. They Now play St. Colmcilles of Meath on the 26th of November.

 

Offaly U,13s

Offaly U,13’s took part in a blitz at the weekend and on team from Rhode were Dylan Kilmurray, Shane Murphy,Sean Choudary, Cian Murphy and Cian Conroy. Jack Murphy was not present due to illness.

 

 

Handball

Hard Luck to Cathal McNamee on been beaten in a tiebreaker in the All Ireland one wall C final at the weekend.

The very best of luck to Bracknagh in the Leinster Junior Club Football final against Rosenallis on Saturday coming the 19th November in O’Connor Park Tullamore at 2pm.

 

Speedy Recovery

Best wishes to former Rhode player and a great supporter Patsy McGovern who is recovering from an operation had over the weekend. We look forward to seeing Patsy out and about very soon no Doubt he was kept well informed of the great result on Sunday.

 

Deepest Sympathy

Deepest Sympathy to the Family of Kieran Dunphy (Celbridge) whose funeral took place on Saturday morning last in St.Brigids Church Straffan. The deceased was father of local shop owner Kieran Dunphy and of Fran Doyle.
