Rhode Senior footballers were beaten by Clara in the Offaly Division 1 League Final on Saturday in Geashill. Rhode led on the interval by 2-6 to 2-2 and stretched their lead to six points early in the second half but a strong finish from Clara gained the win by seven in the end and deserved so. Rhode fielded without Niall McNamee (holidays), Brain Darby and Shane Sullivan (injured), Declan Murphy and Stephen Hannon (on army duty) Clara were also short some players.

Happy 21st birthday greetings is extended to Senior and Under 21 player Donal Hickey who celebrated his birthday in O\’Toole\’s on Friday night.
The Annual General Meeting of the Rhode GAA Club takes place on Friday in Rhode Hall at 8pm. All motions were forwarded to secretary Kenneth Garry on or before last Wednesday all aspects of the club\’s activities both on and off the field will be up for discussion and the club\’s elections of officials such as management, committee, minor club chairman, secretary and team managements will be voted for on the night. Only members on the club official GAA register will be eligible to vote which will be strictly adhered to.
The Offaly GAA county convention will take place on Tuesday 10th of December in O\’Connor Park. Rhode\’s county delegates will be elected at the AGM of the club on December 6th.
Well done to Ballinamere who had a narrow 2-8 to 0-13 win over the Kilkenny champions Lisdowney in the Leinster Junior Hurling Final played in good conditions in O\’Connor Park on Sunday. Ballinamere led by four points at the interval and they survived a second half rally by the hot favourites from Kilkenny to win the title the first for an Offaly team. Also well done to Shamrock\’s Minor football team who became the first Offaly club to win the prestigious Leinster minor tournament organised by Eire Og Club in Carlow and the Leinster Council for minor championship winning teams in all the Leinster counties they had a 4-7 to 2-5 win over the Wexford champions on Saturday last a great achievement for the club and Offaly.
There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto for the week ending 25th of November for a Jackpot of €15,000. The numbers drawn were 9 14 19 24. The club like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to O\’Toole\’s for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation. The following matched three numbers and received €50 each

Sympathy is extended to the McLoughlan family of Rathcobican Rhode on the death of Charlie. The deceased was one of life\’s true gentlemen, a pleasure to meet be it socially, at work in the ESB in Rhode, or around the village. He was first and foremost a great family man and a tremendous provider for Sheila and the rest of his family all of whom he was so proud of. He was also a tremendous character and a man of great wit. He will be sadly missed by us all but especially by his wife and family. We have all lost a great friend. Charlie was laid to rest in Derrinturn cemetery Carbury after recquiem mass in Rhode on Friday. Sympathy is also extended to the Lynam family of Leitrim Rhode on the death of Roger who passed away on Thursday and his remains were interred in St. Fintan\’s cemetery Sutton on Monday morning.
