Rhode Goes To Hollywood
Rhode GAA & LGFA are launching a major fundraising campaign to support the development of new dressing rooms and club facilities on the land recently purchased by the Club.
Draft plans for this exciting development have already been prepared, and once approved by the Club Committee, an application for planning permission will be submitted to Offaly County Council in the coming weeks.
To help fund the construction and associated costs, the Club is proud to present a Gala Fundraising Event — “Rhode Goes to Hollywood”, taking place at The Court Hotel, Tullamore, on Saturday, 14th March 2026.
This unique event will feature the “Rhode Oscars”, celebrating locally produced short films acted in by members of the Rhode community. A professional production company will film a series of iconic scenes from popular films and TV shows such as Fr. Ted, Derry Girls, and The Field — all starring local people, whether in speaking roles or as extras.
In total, seven short films, each lasting around 6–7 minutes, will be produced and premiered on Gala Night. Rehearsals will take place during the summer months, with filming scheduled across two weekends in October and November 2025.
Fundraising will play a key role throughout the production process, with each film team engaging in friendly competition to raise vital funds for the Club’s development plans.
About Rhode GAA
Rhode GAA Club was formed in 1888 and Rhode GAA is legendary
as once written by Offaly GAA historian John Clarke in an article entitled “Rhode – The Triumphant Erigena” sums up what is the essence of Rhode GAA Club. Rhode GAA have won 29 senior football championships which is a record that no other small village in the county could boast. The first in 1900 and the most recent in 2018 sees Rhode dominance continue so much so that we are now only one title behind county leaders Tullamore. The history of Offaly football is lavishly adorned with the contributions from Rhode. There were great battles with Rhode and Tullamore in the 1920’s and early 1930’s, the razor sharp rivalry with near neighbours Edenderry through the years to the most recent dominance of Offaly football 1998 to 2018. Rhode’s impact on Gaelic football has not confined to the domestic scene. Every Offaly success has brought a generous contribution from Rhode and the representation of five of the victorious panel of 1971 and 1972 this was the highest of any club. More success followed through the early 1980’s with another four representing the club in 1982 and returned again in 1997 and 1998 with Leinster and National Football League wins.
