Rhode Senior footballers qualified for the Leinster Senior Club Final when on Sunday they had an excellent 1-15 to 2-4 win over the Kildare champions Moorefield. Rhode laid the foundation for the win with a great first half when they led by 1-8 to 1-1 the goal coming from Anton Sullivan. Great credit must go to the team, panel and management and again great credit to all our supporters who were massive on the day. This is Rhode’s fourth final appearance in nine years and they are a great credit to the club and county. After the game the team were treated to a meal and thanks is expressed to Colm and Catriona Killeen. Rhode play St. Vincent’s of Dublin in the final in Navan on Sunday the 14th of December at 2pm.
At half time in the Leinster club semi-final the Under 8 of Rhode and Moorefield played out an exhibition game which went down a treat for the fans of both teams and it was also a red letter day for the young lads who enjoyed the opportunity to play on the same pitch as their adult club player. Great thanks is credited to the Offaly coaches Alan Mulhall and John Leehy who were very helpful and they met both teams on arrival to the ground. Thanks is also expressed to the Leinster GAA Council and also to the Offaly County Board. Thanks also to Moorefield GAA who instigated the exhibition game, also to club chairman James Murphy and last on but least Stephen Darby whose huge work enabled this whole to go ahead. Finally a special mention to all the kids for taking part and also to their parents who turned out in such great numbers and gave both the young lads and our senior team such vocal support.
