In Memory of Dean Morris

It was with great sadness and heartbreak that we learned of the tragic death of our great friend and teammate Dean on Thursday last.  No words can ever describe the feeling of loss that is running through our club and community. We especially think of Dean’s heartbroken family during this time as they grieve the loss of their son and brother. Dean accomplished many great things in his life and he was no less successful on the playing field. Dean began his Rhode football career at U10 where he won two All-Ireland medals at Community Games level. He has Offaly Championship medals at every grade of underage from U12 right up to U21 and among all of his adult league and championship titles there are no less than five Offaly Senior Football Championship medals to be found.
We express our deepest sympathy to Dean’s family. His father Brendan is a fanatical supporter of his adopted Rhode and has ran many successful fundraisers for the club over the years. His mother Dympna is a former assistant treasurer and committee member of our club. His siblings Caoimhe, Aaron and Gwen are equally supportive of the club and the Morris family were the first ever sponsors of our club jerseys way back when the family ran a shop in the village. We also express our deepest sympathy to Deans Partner Jenny and her Daughter Amelia.
We keep in our thoughts all of Deans teammates and friends who have soldiered together from U10 right up until recently. In all the sadness, the bond they have with each other which came from experiences shared both on and off the pitch will be remembered. It is a bond that cannot be broken and those shared memories will live on in our hearts forever.
Deans Funeral mass took place on Sunday afternoon last in St.Peters Church Rhode followed by burial to the adjoining cemetery.  He was giving a great send off with a full guard of honour from all the club which included all Adult players, under-age footballers, Ladies Club , members and past players all  said their farewells  to Dean .
