The Annual General Meeting of the Rhode GAA Club will take place on Friday at 8pm sharp in Rhode Hall. All members and intending members are requested to attend. All attending the meeting will be requested to sign on arrival with club registrar Ger Noonan and membership for 2015 will be taken on the night and we would request members to do so.
Offaly Senior footballers got their season off to the perfect start when they recorded a 2-12 to 0-9 win over Laois on Sunday. It was a good win for Offaly so well done to all concerned. Offaly now play Dublin on this Wednesday night in Parrell Park at 7.30 and on Sunday play Maynooth College on O’Connor Park at 2pm. On the panel from the club was Pauric Sullivan.
All tickets for the GAA National Draw are to be returned sold or unsold to either treasurer Patricia McManus or PRO John Glennon on or before February 1st.
Rhode minor board would like to thank Michael Hyland and all at Edenderry credit union for their generous sponsorship of a football each to our 6 to 8 year old boys which were presented to the players on December 6th last. We would also like to thank Stephen Darby for spearheading the boys winter training and to all the coaches who helped out every Saturday morning which proved to be a huge success.
The Offaly GAA Awards night will take place on Saturday the 17th of January in the Bridge House who also sponsors the event. Rhode’s Niall McNamee will receive the senior player of the year a great honour for Niall and the Rhode Club. David Hope from The Fahy Handball Club will receive the handballer of the year award in recognition of winning the All-Ireland Intermediate championship doubles along with Noel Murphy. The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on. The Club would like to wish a Cead Mile Failte to all the people of the Parish who were home for the Holiday period from All over the world. A special welcome to Danny and Ann Leevey and family Isabelle, Daniel and Maggie May who have come home from America after 20 years. Before leaving they were an integral part of the club especially Danny who played for the club in all grades and he also represented the County. He was a member of the club committee where he held the position of assistance secretary for three years. They are wished the best for the future at home from all in the club.
The club extends get well wishes to all the people of the parish of the parish who are ill or hospital at the moment especially to Sally Dunne and to great Rhode supporter and sponsor of the club Paddy (Whitey) Quinn who was hospitalised over the Christmas period it will be great to see them both out and about soon.
Sympathy is extended to the Leavy family of Clonmeen Rhode on the death of Essie who died on Sunday of last week and whose remains were interred to Rhode cemetery on Tuesday. Essie was a woman of very quiet disposition a great wife and mother and a lady of the highest degree. She will be sadly missed by all of us who were lucky enough to have known her but especially by John and family.
