Sympathy is extended to the Cox family of Rathcobican on the death of John who passed away on Monday morning last. John was one of the most highly respected member of the community. A tremendous husband and father and he was employed for many years at Rhode power station with the ESB. In his youth John was an excellent footballer and he played for Ballinabrackey in Meath and he was an excellent athlete and he won several championships both at County and Leinster level at cross country. John came to live in Rathcobican Rhode when he married Mary Bridget R.I.P. From day one he was involved in the community with the Rhode Community Games and the GAA Club in particular. He had a huge part in the training of all athletes for the community games and their great success in winning County and All-Ireland medals is a testimony to John. He was also involved in the Rhode GAA Club where he was also involved in the management of the physical training of several teams including the senior team in the early 90\’s. At John\’s removal and funeral day there were guards of honour on the Thursday evening by Rhode Community Games and on Friday the day of John\’s funeral. We as a community and indeed all the people who knew John have lost a great friend and at all Rhode GAA Club sends their deepest sympathy to the Cox family. John was laid to rest in Rhode cemetery. Sympathy is also extended to the Kelly family of Croghan on the death of Cissy whose remains were interred in Croghan cemetery on Wednesday.
