Rhode Intermediate footballers retained their intermediate status when on Sunday evening they had a 2-13 to 0-6 win over Kilclonfert in Geashill. It marked the return of Paschal Kellaghan and Jack Killmurray to the Rhode colours, both played well.
Rhode Under 12 football league team received a walk over from DER Geals in a game which was due to be played in Rhode on Wednesday evening.
Rhode Under 14 footballers were beaten by Ballinamere/Durrow in the fifth round of the Offaly Under 14 Championship on a score line of 3-19 to 2-7 this game was played in Durrow.
The surviving members and representatives of the deceased members of the victories Offaly Minor football team who were part of Offaly’s first ever All-Ireland Minor football title and the county’s only title in this grade gathered in the Court Hotel on Friday night to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of that great occasion in 1964. The Rhode Club had three playing on that winning team Eugene Mulligan at right half back, Jody Gunning at right half forward and the late Michael Byrne R.I.P at full forward. This team had great success in winning two All-Irelands at senior level and four Leinster titles. It was a great occasion on Friday night it was thoroughly enjoyed by all and a great celebration for all Offaly people.
The following are the winners of the various categories in the Rhode GAA Golf Classic which took place at Edenderry Golf Club on Saturday September 6th. Again thanks to all the teams that participated and the club are very appreciative. Also thanks to all the club’s committee members who put in such an effort to make the day such a success it was. Thanks to our local butcher Ray Dempsey who provided the excellent food and to the Edenderry Golf Club for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.

Well done to the Rhode Under 10’s footballers who completed the Croghan Hill challenge on Sunday morning thanks to Mattie and Dickie for organising it all and providing a few laughs with their display! In completing The Croghan Hill Challenge the kids raised over €200 for Crumlin Children’s Hospital so well done to all involved. Also a huge thank you to Peter Moore for the use of his great facility and for his guidance and encouragement.
