Fantasy Rhode Team

See our facebook page to name your fantasy Rhode Senior Teams. Every Week I will put teams on into the Notes.

This weeks team and observation is from Kevin Corrigan who named a team on our page  Adrian Daly; Alan Kellaghan, Barry Malone, Eoin Rigney; Brian Darby, Shane Sullivan, Niall Darby; Alan McNamee, Ken Kellaghan; Anton Sullivan, Roy Malone, Pat Daly; Johnny Mooney, Paschal Kellaghan, Niall McNamee.
There were some hard calls.  Johnny Mooney was more or less done by 1990s but I remember him coming back in the early \’90s and as an impressionable young lad, being mesmerized by his brilliance and audacity. There were some players very close to making it. Ken Garry in goals. Joe Kilmurray,  David Bannon and Pauric Dunne in defence. Richie Hartnett, Ciaran Heavey and Eoghan Byrne  also played a lot of good football in defence. Eugene McDermott was an attacking option and Ruari McNamee.
It\’s important to remember players from the 1990s before the start of Rhode\’s golden era in 1998. The Leavy brothers Pat and Danny were very good early in the decade before emigration took them to New York and Danny was very close to an attacking place while Pat was strong as a horse at full back. Fergal Dunne did a huge lot of work at midfield in the 1990s and Eddie Byrne did a lot of unseen work in attack. I picked Ken Kellaghan at midfield as I feel this was his best position and he had a great pair of hands and football brain  even if he played at either end of the field and had injury problems that curtailed his career from being everything it could have been. Its easy to remember the lads with bags of senior football medals but there were some very good players when Rhode weren\’t winning.   I\’ve probably forgotten to mention some but there it is anyway

Sympathy
Deepest Sympathy  is extended to the family of the Late Fr, Scully who passed away  . He will be remembered fondly by all  in Offaly GAA  past and present in his role as Offaly manager in the 60\’s ,
May He Rest In Peace
