Sympathy
Rhode GAA expresses our Deepest Sympathy to the Smullen Family on the Passing of Rhode’s Greatest ever Sporting Ambassador  Pat Smullen.

Peacefully surrounded by his loving family at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital. Son of the late Paddy. Deeply regretted by his adoring wife Frances, sadly missed by his loving children Hannah, Paddy and Sarah, mother Mary, brothers Sean, Ger and Brian, cousins especially Alan and Ken, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The Community of Rhode have always and will continue to be proud of the achievement;s of one of its greatest sons Pat Smullen who sadly has passed away at too young an age. Pat comes from a great Rhode GAA family and while his football career ended at a young age Pat continued to support the club.

We were only too delighted to honour him at our 2017 Dinner Dance following his Double Derby success in 2016. While dealing with his illness Pat proved to be a massive inspiration to everyone but most especially to our Senior footballers in 2018 to whom Pat spoke to on a Friday night before the county final which they went on to win. It can be safely said that the talk that night didn’t leave any player unsure of what had to be done on County Final day and will never be forgotten by all those lads.

Pat\’s Funeral Mass took place on Friday afternoon in St,Peter;s Church Rhode followed by burial to the adjoining cemetery .

Rhode GAA carried out a guard of honour along with Rhode Ladies football and Pat;s colleagues Jockeys and Saff of the racing world.

Many thanks to John, Kilmuuray Beezy Glenno, Robert Kellaghan for Coordinating our part in the guard of honour and also to Dan O\’Brien for gathering the arm bands afterwards.

May Pat Rest In Peace.
