Senior and Intermediate Wins

Rhode Senior Footballers are now on Target to reach their 15th consecutive Semi final after beating neighbours Edenderry on Saturday evening last in O\’Connor  park Tullamore.  Played in a high intensity Rhode showed their eagerness to get on top early  leading 1-5 to 2 points in the first 12 minutes. . Rhode pushed on but Edenderry came back with a goal to leave it close for a short time.  Rhode recieved a penalty which was taken well by Anton Sullivan . Rhode finished 2-10 to 1-4  at Half-time.  Rhode kicked further  ahead in the second half with the final score reading 2-18 to 2-7.

Rhode will now face Clara in their final group game in about three weeks time.

Intermediate Football Championship

Rhode Intermediate footballers got their first win in this year\’s championship when they took on Bracknagh in Walshisland on Friday night last. Rhode were down  by 3 point\’s at  half-time and in the first ten minutes of the second half Bracknagh went further ahead . Rhode never bowed and kept fighting back as any Rhode team does and got the scores to win on a score-line of 1-11 to 0-10 .

Junior B Championship

Rhode Juniors were defeated by Raheen on Sunday evening last on a score-line of 3-9 to 2-9.

Team: Colm Masterson, Tommy Dunne, John Murphy, Fergal McNamee, Luke Doyle , Karl Green, Ricky Cully, Mark Hynes, Colin Kerrigan,  Emmet Mayon, Ian Nugent , Liam Grennan, Robert Leavy, Peter Murphy. Subs   Frank Glennon for Mark Hynes, Wayne Leavy for Peter Murphy.

Minor Football Championship

Rhode minors took on St.Rynaghs on Wednesday evening last in Fr.Dowling Park.  Played in very windy conditions Rhode led 6pts to 3 at the break. The game changed on its head in the second half with St.Rynaghs controlling the game  scoring 1-3. Rhode had a number of chances and unfortunately were not able record a score at all in the second half.  Full Time score Rhode 0-6.  St.Rynaghs 1-6.

U,8s Croke Park Trip

Rhode U,8 boys will take part in an a blitz in Croke Park on the 23rd of August.

Adam Mangan Memorial Cup and Shield

Offaly GAA will host the Adam Mangan Memorial Cup and Shield on Sat 13th Aug. This is the main competition for inter county U15 teams from all over Ireland and it was hosted is Offaly last year. This year following the sad passing of Adam Mangan it has been agreed to name the competition in his honour. This year’s competition promises to be a feast of football from the up and coming stars from all over Ireland.

We in Rhode GAA Club are delighted to be hosting Group A of the Adam Mangan Memorial Cup and look foward to welcoming the visiting teams.

Group A:

Tyrone, Kildare,Meath and Sligo.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto Draw that took place on the 2th of August for a Jackpot of €15,000.  The numbers drawn were 7 26 27 29.  The club would like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to O’Toole’s for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.  The following matched three numbers and received €200

The Rhode GAA Lotto is the main source of income the club has and now you can play online though our website.  The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on.  In other words, the more you play the more free draws you are entitled to!!

Get well wishes are extended to all of the people of the parish who are ill or hospitalised at the moment especially Liam Swaine.

Speedy Recovery to Rhode Selector Jack Kilmurray on his recent illness and also to Manager Paschal kellaghan.  Both men are on the mend.
