Minors Lose Out On Title

Rhode Minor B footballers were beaten by Na Fianna in the Minor B Final replay on a score line of 2-8 to 1-6 after another thrilling game of football.  Rhode led by two points at the interval but a strong second half performance by Na Fianna ensured victory.  Hard luck to all concerned as a great effort went in by the team and management of Kyle Kavanagh, Anton Sullivan, Donal Hickey and Ger Hynes.  Great thanks is also expressed to Murphy engineering of Ballyburley proprietor James Murphy who sponsored a set of jerseys for the Minor team it is greatly appreciated by the club.

 

Rhode Under 16 footballers play Na Fianna in the Under 16 B League Final on Saturday in Daingean at 2pm.  The referee for the game is David Walsh.

 

As you are no doubt aware, An Rod have qualified for the Leinster Club Final which takes place on December 14th in Navan.  In light of this fantastic achievement it was agreed to postpone our club’s  scheduled AGM for December 14th.  The club will now hold their AGM on Friday the 9th of January 2015 in Rhode Hall at 8pm sharp.  All who attend will be requested to sign in on arrival with our registrar Ger Noonan.  Membership for 2015 will be accepted on the and we ask all patrons attending the AGM to try and their membership for the forthcoming year.

All members and intending members are welcome to attend.

On Wednesday night last Proud parents and supporters alike packed Rhode GAA Hall to watch the Football stars of tomorrow be presented with their  Offaly Bun na Scoile Shield Medals and  Under 7s blitz medals by the Rhode Senior Team.

Stephen Darby Manager of the Winning Parish Offaly Bun na Scoile team opened proceedings by addressing the delighted parents family and supporters   thanking them for their support and praising the work and commitment of the young apprentices whom he great faith in  becoming Master craftsmen of the game Like the Rhode Seniors.

Rhode Captain Pauric Sullivan made the first Medal presentation of the night to Rhode Parish Bun na Scoile Winning captain Luke Spollen and players came up one by one to recieve their medals from members of the Rhode Senior team.

Then it was the Turn of the Under 7s Rhode Blitz team to receive their medals for their participation in a blitz that took place in O’Connor Park at Half time of the Rhode game again Moorefield.

Finishing up Stephen said it was wonderful to see the smiles on the young lads faces and the feeling of happiness among them adding that a big thank you be given to James Murphy and Cathal Swords on the support given to the schools by Rhode Club. Pauric Sullivan then addressed the young lads by congratulating them adding how crucial it was to train hard and listen to your coaches. Pauric also spoke of how he and the team were very proud to see the under 7s taking part In O’Connor Park on what was such a brilliant day for Rhode and thanked all for their support. The Night finished with the Kids receiving a treat before heading home. We would like to thank all for making it such a lovely occasion for everyone.

At half time in the Leinster club semi-final the Under 8 of Rhode and Moorefield played out an exhibition game which went down a treat for the fans of both teams and it was also a red letter day for the young lads who enjoyed the opportunity to play on the same pitch as their adult club player.  Great thanks is credited to the Offaly coaches Alan Mulhall and John Leehy who were very helpful and they met both teams on arrival to the ground.  Thanks is also expressed to the Leinster GAA Council and also to the Offaly County Board.  Thanks also to Moorefield GAA who instigated the exhibition game, also to club chairman James Murphy, Minor Club Chairman Cathal Swords along with Minor Club Secretary Tracey Murphy and last on but least Stephen Darby whose huge work enabled this whole thing to go ahead.  Finally a special mention to all the kids for taking part and also to their parents who turned out in such great numbers and gave both the young lads and our senior team such vocal support.

 

 

The best of luck to Kilcormac-Killoughey senior hurling team who play Ballyhale Shamrock’s of Kilkenny in the Leinster Senior hurling championship final on Sunday in Portlaoise at 2pm.

 

The best of luck to the Shamrock’s hurling team  who play Bennetsbridge of Kilkenny in the Leinster Junior hurling final in O’Connor Park on Sunday at 1.30pm.

 

Well done to the Clara Junior hurling team who had a great 2-18 to 0-6 win over the Longford champions Wolfe-Tones in Tubber in the Leinster special hurling final.

The Rhode GAA Lotto is the main source of income the club has and now you can play online though our website.  The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on.  In other words, the more you play the more free draws you are entitled to!!

Club Levy  Clubs have the opportunity to ease their burden of the levy which clubs have to pay for the refurbishment of O’Connor Park which is now recognised as one of the small stadiums in the county.  The Rhode Club levy is €3,500.  To ease the burden the county board with the approval of all clubs the following scheme is now in place.

Clubs who can get members and none members to purchase the Offaly GAA Lotto for the year which includes them in 52 draws for €90.  For each person who purchases the lotto for the year €90 will be deducted off the club levy.  People wishing to purchase the lotto for the year which helps the club to ease to burden of the levy please contact either of the following.

Get well wishes is extended to all the people of the parish who are ill or hospitalised at the moment.  Special get well wishes to former Rhode and Offaly great Charlie Conroy who was ill recently and is wishes a speedy recovery.  Hope to see you out and about again soon Charlie.  Also a speedy recovery is extended to Rhode Minor player Shane Lowery who sub stained a foot injury playing for St. Mary’s secondary school a few days and was sadly missed on Sunday for the Rhode minors defeat by Na Fianna in the Offaly Minor B football final.
